Acquisition of Il Tempo Finalized

7 September 2016

Il Tempo newspaper officially transitions to the management of Finanziaria Tosinvest.

The formal acquisition of Il Tempo was signed yesterday, marking the official transfer of ownership from real estate developer Domenico Bonifaci, who had purchased the newspaper in 1996 from Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone, to Finanziaria Tosinvest.

Preparations are now underway at Palazzo Wedekind, the historic headquarters of the newspaper in Piazza Colonna, for the restructuring, modernization, and relaunch of the publication. The goal is to offer Romans—and readers beyond—a newspaper that is increasingly lively, dynamic, timely, and objective in its coverage of events.

The announcement was made by Giampaolo Angelucci, President of Finanziaria Tosinvest S.p.A., the company that acquired the newspaper, once led by Renato Angiolillo and Gianni Letta, and currently directed by Gian Marco Chiocci. Angelucci expressed his commitment to restoring the paper to the prestigious position it once held in both Roman and national journalism.

Gian Marco Chiocci, confirmed as the editor-in-chief of Il Tempo, expressed his enthusiasm: “I am thrilled by the arrival of the new publisher, who will help us develop an ambitious project for a newspaper that is not only reliable but also nonconformist, always remaining independent as it has for the past 70 years, as stated under the newspaper’s masthead. Personally, and on behalf of my colleagues, I thank Finanziaria Tosinvest for the trust they’ve placed in us and for their efforts during this challenging time for the publishing industry.”
